Dr. James J. Contestable

Board Certified in Dermatology

James J. Contestable, MD is fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, board-certified Dermatologist, and active- duty Naval Officer. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida and his M.D. at the Uniformed Services University where he received the Navy Surgeon Generals award and was a first-class Alpha Omega Alpha selectee.

Dr. Contestable served onboard three US Navy aircraft carriers during deployments at sea as a flight surgeon and aeromedical evacuation specialist. During his tour, he was selected as the Flight Surgeon of the year for the Pacific Command. He completed his residency in Dermatology at Naval Medical Center San Diego where he was elected by his peers as the House Staff Council President for the entire campus.
He completed a fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, Cutaneous Oncology, and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Zitelli and Brodland Skin Cancer Center, considered by many to be the world’s most prestigious and competitive fellowship program. While there he personally treated and reconstructed over one thousand cancers of every variety, location, and size.

Dr. Contestable is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Dermatology at Uniformed Services University School of Medicine. Dr. Contestable’s memberships include the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the American College of Mohs Surgery.
